The wildfire danger in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area is now very high due to continued hot, dry weather and little to no recent precipitation. These conditions are expected to persist, further drying vegetation and increasing the risk of new wildfire starts. Possible thunderstorms may also bring lightning, which can result in new wildfires. Please use caution during any outdoor activity and do your part to help prevent human-caused wildfires.
Campfire safety
If you are spending time outdoors, remember to do your part to prevent wildfires and stay prepared. While outdoor campfires are currently allowed in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area, wildfire conditions are assessed daily, and restrictions on outdoor fires may be implemented if conditions warrant.
Campfire rules may also vary by location, including in areas managed by Alberta Parks. Before travelling, check Fire Bans in Alberta Parks and Alberta Fire Bans for your destination to confirm whether campfires are permitted and if any additional restrictions are in place.
If you are having a campfire, be aware of your surroundings and follow safe campfire practices. Always keep campfires small, never leave them unattended, and make sure they are fully extinguished before leaving.
Report wildfires
Recent lightning in the area may have started wildfires that are still smoldering unseen and could flare up later when conditions are right. If you see smoke in the forest or signs of wildfire, report it immediately by calling 310-FIRE (3473). Quick reporting helps wildfire crews respond faster and reduces the risk of wildfires spreading.
Smoke conditions
Smoky conditions are expected to intermittently continue in the area due to ongoing wildfire activity across Canada. FireSmoke Canada provides hourly forecasts of smoke concentrations and identifies the source wildfires. There are currently no wildfires in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area contributing to the smoke conditions. If you have smoke related health concerns, call Health Link by dialing 811 or visit Alberta Health Services.
Wildfire situation
Since January 1, 2026, the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area has responded to 54 wildfires, which have burned over 1,200 hectares.
