Recent precipitation has reduced the wildfire danger in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area to moderate. While most of the forest area has benefited from the moisture, areas south of Highway 11 received less rainfall and the wildfire danger remains slightly elevated. Elevated humidity levels are also contributing to increased moisture retention in vegetation and may help slow drying.
Smoke conditions
Smoky conditions are expected to intermittently continue in the area due to ongoing wildfire activity across Canada. FireSmoke Canada provides hourly forecasts of smoke concentrations and identifies the source wildfires. There are currently no wildfires in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area contributing to the smoke conditions. Wildfire situation
RWF036 remains classified as under control. Since January 1, 2026, the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area has responded to 53 wildfires, which have burned over 1,200 hectares.

Fire permits are required
From March 1 to October 31, a fire permit is required for all burning activities in the Forest Protection Area (FPA), excluding campfires. The use of fireworks and exploding targets within the FPA is prohibited year-round without a permit. Permits are free and can be requested online or by calling the Rocky Mountain House forestry office at 403-845-8250.
