The wildfire danger in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area is now moderate. Warmer temperatures and less precipitation in the forecast are expected to dry out vegetation and may increase the wildfire danger across parts of the forest area. Although the area has received significant rainfall in recent weeks, smaller vegetation can dry quickly under warm, sunny conditions. It is important to use caution with any activity involving an open flame.
Safe campfires
Abandoned campfires cause many wildfires every year in Alberta. To help prevent your campfire from becoming a wildfire, keep it small, safe, and always attended. When you're finished, ensure it is completely extinguished before leaving the site or going to bed. Do not assume rain will put your campfire out. Instead, always soak it, stir it, and soak it again, until the coals are cool to the touch.

Fire permits are required
From March 1 to October 31, a fire permit is required for all burning activities in the Forest Protection Area (FPA), excluding campfires. The use of fireworks and exploding targets within the FPA is prohibited year-round without a permit. Permits are free and can be requested online or by calling the Rocky Mountain House forestry office at 403-845-8250.
