Due to widespread precipitation, the wildfire danger in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area is now low, and the fire advisory has been lifted. Rain showers and thunderstorms are expected over the next few days, which will reduce the likelihood of new wildfire starts. However, lightning from thunderstorms may ignite fires that can smoulder in the ground for days and become active as temperatures increase into the weekend.

Off-highway vehicle safety
Off-highway vehicles (OHVs) have exhaust systems that get hotter than 200°C. At these temperatures, built-up materials (such as grass, muskeg, moss or other debris) can heat up, smoulder and ignite. These can fall to the ground as you are riding, starting a wildfire.
To help prevent your OHV from causing a wildfire, keep your machine clean and free of debris, especially after travelling through muskeg or tall grass, and make sure your muffler and spark arrestor are working properly. Stop frequently to check for and remove debris from hot spots, and carry basic firefighting equipment such as a shovel, collapsible pail or fire extinguisher. Wildfire situation
Since January 1, 2026, the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area has responded to 62 wildfires, which have burned over 1,200 hectares.
