Decision-making capacity assessment training
The Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee (OPGT) is offering a three-day capacity assessment course for professionals interested in learning decision-making capacity assessment skills. The course will explore the requirements of completing decision-making capacity assessments under the Adult Guardianship and Trusteeship Act (AGTA).
The 3-day capacity assessment course will be presented online via Microsoft Teams on September 23rd, 24th and 25th, 2026. Attendance is mandatory for all three days and there will be an exam following the completion of the third day. A minimum score of 80% is required.
Following the course, successful candidates must be designated by the Minister of Assisted Living and Social Services.
This training is only available to:
- registered social workers
- registered occupational therapists
- registered nurses/nurse practitioners
- registered psychiatric nurses
Additional course details:
- Registration is limited to 45 participants and will remain open until the course is full.
- Applications are screened according to geographic location and area needs.
- There is no cost for the course, but registration is required.
