Driver Training and Examiner Licensing
As of August 24, 2026, driver training schools, driving instructors and driver examiners must use the new Driver Training and Examiner Licensing portal for all new applications, renewals, upgrades and updates.
If you paid a new application or renewal fee at an Alberta registry prior to August 24, 2026, you can submit your application by email to [email protected].
Overview
Driver training school licences must be renewed every 12 months.
Driver training schools must always have:
- a Senior Driving Instructor for each class of instruction the driver training school offers
- a valid licence to continue to operate and remain compliant
If the driver training school has not received the renewed licence by the expiry date of the current licence, the driver training school must not operate or provide driver training services as outlined in the Driver Training and Driver Examination Regulation (Alberta Regulation 316/2002). It is crucial to comply with this regulation to avoid any disruptions or penalties.
Renewing your licence
To renew your licence and see eligibility and documentation requirements, visit the Driver Training and Examiner Licensing portal.
For more details, see the Licensed Driver Training School Procedures Manual.
Important to know
- A cancelled or suspended licence cannot be renewed.
- Your licence will not be renewed if you have unpaid fines or outstanding balances.
