Online exams for registries

Accreditation and certification exams for registry agents and Registries Online Subscribers, including registry agent eLearning.

Overview

Individuals requiring access to the Alberta Personal Property Registration Electronic System (APPRES), Corporate Registry System (CORES) and RoadScholar are required to complete an eLearning course or exam delivered by Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction.

Successful completion of an eLearning course or accreditation exam does not guarantee access to Government of Alberta Registries systems. In order to use your accreditation access for APPRES or CORES, you must:

  • be employed with a business that has a valid Registries Online agreement with Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction, or
  • be employed at a Registry Agent office

Exams are only available from 9 am to 11:59 pm MT on the day they are booked. You will not be allowed extra time if you start your exam without enough time to complete it before the end of your booked exam day.

How to create an account

To create an account, follow the instructions below.

Step 1. Fill out the form

Driver Examiners and Registries Online Subscribers can fill out the Online Exams/Training: Account Creation/Maintenance and Exam Request Form.

Step 2. Submit the form

Submit the form as instructed in the application form.

Once documentation submitted meets all requirements, requested permission(s) will be granted. You will be notified by email.

Step 3. Activate your account

When your permission has been granted, you will be notified by email. This email will contain your personal username and a temporary password. Your temporary password must be reset to gain access to your account. For help, see Resetting your password below.

The username and password used to write an exam or take eLearning courses are the same credentials you will receive when you activate your account via the Noverant CONTACT Web Portal.

All individuals requesting to write a Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction exam or take eLearning courses must have their own account. If you have forgotten your login credentials, please see Resetting your password below for help.

Resetting your password

To reset your password:

  1. Go to the Noverant CONTACT Web Portal.
  2. Click on ‘Forgot Password?’.
  3. Enter your LAST NAME and USERNAME and a password reset link will be sent to the email you provided on your Online Exams/Training: Account Creation/Maintenance and Exam Request Form.
  4. If you don’t remember your Username please contact [email protected] for support.
  5. Once you have reset your password, login again with your new password.

General account information

You must use your own username and password to write your exam(s) and/or take eLearning courses.

Once you have created an account, the Online eLearning/Training/Exam Code of Conduct must be opened and read. eLearning and exams will not be available until you have read this document.

The Online eLearning/Training/Exam Code of Conduct only needs to be opened once; if any changes are made to the Online eLearning/Training/Exam Code of Conduct, you will be required to open it again.

Accessing the Noverant CONTACT Web Portal

Go to the Noverant CONTACT Web Portal and enter your personal username and password to login.

Exam details

Exams, cancellations, and exam changes are available at no charge.

You can write your exam on any computer with Internet access.

All exams are open-book and consist of randomized questions.

The Terms of Examination must be agreed to prior to writing any exam.

Once complete and submitted, all exams are automatically graded electronically. Individuals are able to view pass/fail status, the grade achieved and print/re-print/save certificate(s).

When starting your exam, be sure to give yourself enough time to complete it.

Available Exams

Corporate Registry System (CORES)

The Corporate Registry System (CORES) contains information on corporations, non-profit companies, societies, partnerships, trade names and other entities registered in Alberta.

Accreditation for CORES consists of three levels: Level 1, 2 and 3. The exams may be taken in any order, however, your personal unique User ID and User Password will not be issued until the preceding level/levels have been achieved.

Online exams are available for:

  • CORES Level 1
  • CORES Level 2
  • CORES Level 3

All exams are 4.5 hours.

A minimum grade of 80% on each online exam is required to obtain accreditation.

Alberta Personal Property Registry Electronic System (APPRES)

The APPRES accreditation you require is dependent on where you are employed.

A minimum grade of 80% is required on the online exam to obtain accreditation.

The following APPRES accreditations are available:

  • APPRES ROL
  • APPRES RA
  • APPRES CEA
  • APPRES CIVIL
  • APPRES GOVT
  • APPRES MEP
  • APPRES WCB

All exams are 3.5 hours.

Alberta Personal Property Registry Electronic System for Registries Online Subscribers: APPRES ROL

Select the APPRES-ROL exam if you are currently employed by or are seeking employment with an organization that has a Registries Online Agreement with Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction and Red Tape Reduction.

Registries Online organizations include financial institutions, law firms, auto repair shops, dealerships or auction houses (not an exhaustive list).

Alberta Personal Property Registry Electronic System for Registry Agents: APPRES RA

A Registry Agent Office provides Motor Vehicles, Land Titles (search only), Vital Statistics, Corporate Registry and Personal Property Registry services to the general public on behalf of the Alberta government.

Select the APPRES-RA exam if you are currently employed by or are seeking employment with a Registry Agent office.

Alberta Personal Property Registry Electronic System for Civil Enforcement Agents: APPRES CEA

Select the APPRES-CEA exam if you are currently employed by or are seeking employment with a Civil Enforcement Agency that has a Registries online agreement with Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction.

A Civil Enforcement Agency provides civil enforcement proceedings to their clients, such as seizure of personal property, sale of seized goods and distribution of funds.

Alberta Personal Property Registry Electronic System for the Forfeiture Program: APPRES CIVIL

Select the APPRES - Forfeiture (Civil) exam if you are currently employed with the Civil Forfeiture Office and are seeking accreditation to register Statutory Charges in APPRES.

The Civil Forfeiture Office performs enforcement activity as the Crown as an interest in the property.

Alberta Personal Property Registry Electronic System for the Government of Alberta: APPRES GOVT

Select the APPRES-GOVT exam if you are currently employed with the Government of Alberta collecting outstanding funds and are seeking accreditation to register Writs of Enforcement in APPRES.

A Writ of Enforcement enables civil enforcement proceedings to be pursued; proceedings include garnishment of funds and/or seizure, sale of personal property and distribution of funds from the sale.

Alberta Personal Property Registry Electronic System for the Maintenance Enforcement Program: APPRES MEP

Select the APPRES-MEP exam if you are currently employed with the Alberta Maintenance Enforcement Program (MEP) and are seeking accreditation to register Maintenance Orders in APPRES.

MEP provides enforcement activities on behalf of creditors that are registered with the program to collect outstanding court ordered support payments.

Alberta Personal Property Registry Electronic System for the Workers’ Compensation Board: APPRES WCB

Select the APPRES-WCB exam if you are currently employed with the Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) and are seeking accreditation to register Workers’ Compensation Charges in APPRES.

WCB performs enforcement activity to collect outstanding WCB premiums.

Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan: AHCIP

This exam is for registry agents only.

Booking an exam

Exam booking requests must be submitted 10 business days prior to the desired exam date.

When your exam booking is approved, you will receive an email confirmation.

Download and complete the Exam Request Form.

You may book multiple exams on the same Exam Request Form, but it is recommended that you do not book more than one exam for the same day.

To begin your exam on your booked exam day, log in to the Noverant CONTACT Web Portal using your personal username and password.

Your booked exam(s) will only appear on your My Records page on the day of your exam.

Cancellation and change policy

For exam cancellations or changes, please email Training & Accreditation at [email protected].

All exam cancellations or changes must be requested within two business days of the booked exam date or a new form will be required.

Please note booking cancellations and exam changes are available at no charge.
