Overview

The Minister’s Awards of Excellence in Child Development recognizes professionals that make life better for children and families. The awards also support government’s commitment to high quality, accessible and affordable child care that is responsive to and inclusive of all children.

Nominating these professionals, teams and programs recognizes excellence in their field. Doing so also celebrates their outstanding work with children at programs licensed or approved by the Government of Alberta.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants

Albertans are encouraged to nominate child development professionals.

The nominated individuals, teams or programs must:

  • live and work in Alberta, and
  • not be a member of the Awards Selection Committee.

Eligible programs

Eligible programs licensed or approved by the Alberta government include:

  • day care programs
  • out-of-school care programs
  • family day home agencies/approved day home providers
  • preschool programs
  • early childhood services programs
  • parent link centres

How to nominate

To nominate an Albertan, follow the nomination guidelines and fill out the nomination form (PDF, 1.55 MB).

After you apply

All nominees and nominators will receive an email or letter confirming receipt of their nomination.

An Awards Selection Committee composed of representatives from stakeholder organizations and government staff reviews all eligible nomination packages according to criteria specified in the nomination guidelines. The Alberta government will contact award recipients directly once the selection process is completed.

2017 award recipients

Awards are given annually to child development professionals who make life better for children and families in Alberta. In 2017, the Alberta government presented nine awards to recipients demonstrating professional excellence in their work with children and families. Congratulations to the 2017 recipients!
