Due to drying vegetation, increased temperatures and high winds, the fire danger level in the Lac La Biche Forest Area is high. Use caution with any outdoor activity. If you see smoke in the forest, report it immediately by calling 310-FIRE (3473). Quick reporting helps wildfire crews respond faster and reduces the risk of wildfires spreading.
Wildfire situation
There is one active wildfire in the Lac La Biche Forest Area, which is under control.
Since January 1, 2026, there have been 88 wildfires in the Lac La Biche Forest Area and approximately 2,393 hectares (ha) have burned.
Agricultural fire prevention
As harvest approaches, producers are reminded to take precautions to prevent wildfires. Check equipment regularly for built-up debris, grass and dust, and remove any material that could ignite from hot machinery. Carry firefighting equipment when operating machinery in dry conditions and stop work if conditions become unsafe.
Fire permits are required
From March 1 to October 31, a fire permit is required for all burning activities in the Forest Protection Area (FPA), excluding campfires. The use of fireworks and exploding targets within the FPA is prohibited year-round without a permit. Permits are free and can be requested online or by calling the Lac La Biche Forest Area office at 780-623-5388. Always follow safe burning practices.
