Lac La Biche Forest Area - May 29, 2026

Very High wildfire danger

The wildfire danger for the Lac La Biche Forest Area is very high due to continued dry conditions. A wildfire can easily ignite and quickly become out of control in these conditions. Use caution with any outdoor activity that could spark a fire.   

Since January 1, 2026 there have been 56 wildfires in the Lac La Biche Forest Area.

As of May 27, 2026, wildfire LWF090 has been officially classified as extinguished. First discovered on May 26, 2025, the wildfire burned approximately 68,000 hectares (ha).

Thank you to all Alberta Wildfire staff, firefighters, aircraft crews, and county partners whose hard work, dedication, and teamwork helped bring this wildfire to a successful conclusion.

Fire advisory

Due to the forecasted weather conditions, a fire advisory is now in effect in the Lac La Biche Forest Area.

Under this advisory current fire permits remain valid. Requests for new fire permits will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. 

Allowed:

  • Safe wood campfires.
  • Backyard firepits 
  • Propane fire pits and natural gas-powered appliances 
  • Charcoal and wood-burning devices with an on/off switch (barbecues, smokers, stoves) 
  • Indoor wood fires 
  • Open flame oil devices 

Off-highway vehicles are not restricted. 

The advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve.
