High wildfire danger
Due to hot and windy conditions, the fire danger in the Lac La Biche Forest Area is currently high. While some areas have received rainfall, it was not widespread, and vegetation is rapidly drying out. These conditions make it easy for wildfires to ignite and spread quickly.
The Lac La Biche forest area is currently under a heat warning. Please be extremely cautious when spending time outdoors. Avoid activities that could spark a fire and report any signs of a wildfire immediately.
Wildfire situation
There are currently five active wildfires burning in the forest area. Four fires are under control and one wildfire is burning out of control.
Wildfire LWF090 is currently burning out of control and is covering an estimated 4,000 hectares in size. It is located in the Cold Lake Air Weapons Range. This wildfire is burning 13.9 km northwest of Cenovus Foster Creek and 6.6 km southeast of Kirby Tower and Kirby Lake Aerodrome.
Alberta Wildfire has deployed air support, heavy equipment and firefighters to contain the fire with more air support and ground crews heading there today.

Since January 1, 2025, there have been 91 wildfires in the Lac La Biche Forest Area, burning a total of 4,660 hectares.
Mutual aid wildfire
Alberta Wildfire is assisting with wildfire LCU002, located in the Redwater Recreation Area.
A mutual aid wildfire is a wildfire that starts outside of the Forest Protection Area and assistance is being provided by Alberta Wildfire to the lead agency. These wildfires typically start in a municipal district but become large enough that municipal firefighters may require additional resources in order to extinguish the wildfire.
Fire restriction
A fire restriction remains in effect for most of the Lac La Biche Forest Area. Under this restriction, all outdoor wood fires are banned on public lands.
Prohibited:
- Outdoor wood fires on public lands, including backcountry and random camping areas
- Any burning, other than a campfire, on private land
- Fireworks and exploding targets
Allowed:
- Safe wood campfires on private land including provincial campgrounds with a designated fire ring
- Backyard firepits
- Propane fire pits and natural gas-powered appliances
- Barbecue charcoal briquettes
- Indoor wood fires
- Open flame oil devices

Fire advisory
A fire advisory remains in effect for the southeast portion of the Lac La Biche Forest Area, including parts of the Municipal District of Bonnyville located within the Forest Protection Area boundaries.
Under this advisory:
- Fire permit requests will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
- Safe campfires are allowed.

Report wildfires
Recent lightning in the area may have started wildfires that are still smoldering unseen and could flare up later when conditions are right. If you see smoke in the forest or signs of wildfire, report it immediately by calling 310-FIRE (3473). Quick reporting helps wildfire crews respond faster and reduces the risk of wildfires spreading.
