High wildfire danger
The wildfire danger for the Lac La Biche Forest Area is high due to continued dry conditions. A wildfire can ignite very easily in these conditions and quickly grow out of control. Use caution while spending time outdoors this weekend and avoid any activities that could spark a wildfire.
Wildfire situation
LFW052 was discovered around noon today (May 26) and is currently burning out of control. The fire is estimated at 5 hectares in size and is located 24 km northwest of Highway 63.
Alberta Wildfire currently has airtankers, helicopters with buckets and firefighters responding to this wildfire. There is no risk to communities or industrial sites at this time.
Since January 1, 2026 there have been 52 wildfires in the Lac La Biche Forest Area.

Fire advisory
Due to the forecasted weather conditions, a fire advisory is now in effect in the Lac La Biche Forest Area.
Under this advisory current fire permits remain valid. Requests for new fire permits will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Allowed:
- Safe wood campfires.
- Backyard firepits
- Propane fire pits and natural gas-powered appliances
- Charcoal and wood-burning devices with an on/off switch (barbecues, smokers, stoves)
- Indoor wood fires
- Open flame oil devices
Off-highway vehicles are not restricted.
The advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve.
