Very High wildfire danger
The fire danger is very high in the Lac La Biche Forest Area due to higher temperatures and windy conditions. This means that in the event of a wildfire, firefighters are expecting to see an increase in fire behaviour. A wildfire can start and spread very easily in these conditions. Please use caution if you are spending time or working outside, as any spark could cause a wildfire to ignite.
If you see smoke or flame in the forest and suspect it's a wildfire, call 310-FIRE.
Fire restriction
A fire restriction is in effect for the central region of the Forest Protection Area. Under this restriction, all outdoor wood fires are banned on public lands.
Prohibited
- Outdoor wood fires on public lands including backcountry and random camping areas
- Any burning, other than a campfire on private land
- Fireworks and exploding targets
Allowed:
- Safe wood campfires on private land including provincial campgrounds with a designated fire ring
- Backyard firepits
- Propane fire pits and natural gas-powered appliances
- Barbecue charcoal briquettes
- Indoor wood fires
- Open flame oil devices

Spring weather conditions
Spring is a critical time for wildfires when the dry and dead vegetation becomes exposed as the snow melts. As we continue to experience warm temperatures, the grass and other vegetation dries out becoming highly flammable. Windy conditions can cause a wildfire to start easily and spread quickly.
A high of 29 ℃ will be winds coming from the Northwest at 30 km/h with gusts up to 50 km/h overnight.
Wildfire situation
Since January 1, 2025, there have been 55 wildfires in the Lac La Biche Forest Area burning a total of 426 hectares (ha). There are currently two active wildfires burning in the forest area. LFW026 is classified as under control and has been determined as human caused. LFW052 is classified as being held and under investigation.
