Overview

Internationalization brings different cultures and worldviews into classroom learning in Alberta.

Government fosters internationalization in many different ways:

  • internationalizing the teaching and learning practice
  • student study abroad and faculty work abroad programs
  • international opportunities for Alberta students
  • building links with international institutions
  • international education projects and contracts
  • offshore campuses
  • collaborative research with international colleagues

Alberta educators that work abroad are better able to pass the skills, knowledge and abilities they gain on to their students. This helps our students acquire the knowledge and competencies needed to live and work in a global society.

Programs for Alberta educators

Several government-led programs help post-secondary educators in Alberta build their global experience.

Campus Alberta Grant for International Learning

About the program

International learning grants help create study abroad experiences for Alberta faculty and students.

Experiences that serve up to 500 students every year receive partial travel funding. Alberta’s post-secondary institutions and faculty are given the opportunity to develop study abroad programs, which help students develop the knowledge and competencies needed to live and work in a global society.

Eligibility

Grants support faculty-led, group-based study abroad initiatives. Contact your institution’s international office to learn how to access grant funding.

Internationalization at Home in Science Education

Studying abroad isn’t for everyone.

The Internationalization at Home in Science Education (i@Home) program provides grants to professors and instructors in science faculties throughout Alberta. The grant helps explore and pilot new approaches to internationalizing their:

  • classrooms
  • curriculum
  • students

These programs help students grow their international abilities without leaving Alberta.

MacEwan University administers this program on government’s behalf.

Eligibility

Professors and instructors must partner with an international institution to be eligible for an i@Home grant.
