Overview

System Excellence Division/Provincial Assessment Sector/French Assessment and Canadian Adult Education Credential Branch

French Assessment and Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC) Branch is responsible for producing French language Early Years Literacy Assessments, Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs) and Diploma Examinations, including the design, development, for Français 30-2 diploma exams. All diploma exams reflect the outcomes of the programs of study and the questions meet rigorous statistical and qualitative standards for reliability and validity. The branch also involves classroom teachers in every step of the development process and teachers participate in marking students’ written responses in Language Arts, Mathematics and Social Studies.

Role

French Assessment and CAEC Branch is seeking 2 highly motivated and experienced high school teachers who are strongly committed to excellence and assurance in education.

In this challenging and rewarding position you will:

  • report to the FLA/Français 30-1 Exam Lead
  • develop and validate Français 30-2 Diploma Exam assessment standards and blueprints that reflect the Program of Studies through collaboration and consultation with ministry colleagues, and external stakeholders
  • help construct high-quality exam questions that meet psychometric and Provincial Assessment specifications
  • potentially help prepare field tests
  • critically review exam materials

The term of this role will be from approximately January 16, 2026 to June 30, 2026.

The service days per your collective agreement will be honoured, but there is no guarantee of alignment with your school authority’s natural breaks.

Most interchange opportunities are located in Edmonton. Residing in the metro area may be required. If you are selected for an interview, you are encouraged to discuss the work location requirements with recruiters during the interview process.

The successful candidate for this position will be required to undergo security screening (including a criminal record check).

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • a related undergraduate degree
  • a valid permanent Alberta teaching certificate plus extensive current related teaching and leadership experience at the school, jurisdictional and/or provincial level
  • a minimum of 5 years of directly related teaching experience of Français 30-2 in Francophone schools
  • high quality ethics
  • sound project management skills, organizational skills and the ability to work independently or collaboratively in a team environment
  • a strong commitment to excellence and assurance in education
  • a high level of comfort working in an evolving digital environment as the sector transitions to digital assessments

Submit a bilingual cover letter that demonstrates your ability to write in both English and French with at least 2 paragraphs in French.

Assets

Preference may be given to applicants who have:

  • experience with provincial diploma exam development, marking and scoring processes
  • related graduate work
