Overview

The Indigenous Women’s Initiatives (IWI) division helps coordinate the Alberta government's efforts to improve the social and economic outcomes of Indigenous women, girls and 2S+ people through collaboration with Indigenous communities, organizations and other partners.

Key priorities include:

  • coordinating Alberta’s response to the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and acting as secretariat to the Premier’s Council on this issue
  • administering the Community Support Fund
  • supporting the First Nations and Métis Women’s Councils on Economic Security
  • acting as the Alberta government’s representative on cross-Canada work to make life safer for Indigenous women and girls
  • overseeing the Alberta Indigenous Intern Program (open to all Indigenous people)
