The wildfire danger in the Calgary Forest Area is now moderate. Although recent precipitation has benefited some areas, grass and other vegetation is beginning to die and dry out as the season progresses. Warmer temperatures are anticipated, increasing the potential for wildfires.
Conditions vary across the area. Everyone spending time outdoors is reminded to recreate responsibly and do their part to prevent human-caused wildfires.
Wildfire situation
There are currently no active wildfires in the Calgary Forest Area.
Since January 1, there have been 97 wildfires in the Calgary Forest Area, which have burned over 23 hectares.
Wildfire season is not over. Warm and dry conditions are expected through the weekend, resources are in place to respond quickly to new wildfires.
Responsible recreation
If you are heading outdoors, remember to do your part to prevent wildfires. Recreating responsibly on Alberta's public land helps keep our forests and communities safe. Campfires should be kept small, so you can control them and extinguish them quickly if needed.
Please remember that campfires must be attended at all times. If we come across an unattended campfire, not only will we extinguish it, but you could face a fine of $600.
Fireworks and exploding targets are prohibited in the Forest Protection Area without written consent from a forest officer.

If you're going to burn it, get a permit
Until November 1, fire permits are still required for any type of burning within the Forest Protection Area, with the exception of campfires. You can request your free fire permit online (preferred) or by calling the Calgary Forest Area main office at 403-297-8800.
