High risk offenders

Find out about monitored offenders in communities across the province who present a significant safety risk.

Introduction

Before a serious and violent offender is released from a federal prison or provincial correctional centre into the community, police determine if the offender presents a significant safety risk to the public.

If the offender does, they’re designated as a ‘high risk offender.'

Public notices

When an offender is designated as high risk, the police carefully decide how to notify the public about their release. When police issue a high risk offender notice, only information that’s necessary for public safety is released.

A notice usually includes:

  • the offender’s:
    • description
    • photo
    • offences
    • general living area
  • a police service contact
