High risk offenders – Calgary

Overview

A number of agencies work together to ensure public safety and prevent crime by high risk offenders. These groups include:

• police
• government (including corrections)
• Crown prosecutors
• community agencies

Together these groups manage and monitor high risk offenders in the community with tools like:

• risk assessments
• release plans
• supervision arrangements with strict conditions

Concerns

If you have immediate concerns about a high risk offender in your community, contact your local police service or RCMP detachment.

Updates and use

After the police issue a public notice, the offender will be added to this list.

This list is posted to help:

• inform you about high risk offenders who live in your community
• encourage you to take suitable precautions to ensure your safety

Only designated high risk offenders who present a significant safety risk to the public are included on this list; not all dangerous or serious offenders are included.

An offender’s information will be removed when they:

• have not been convicted of an offence for 12 months, and
• are no longer under court-ordered supervision

Information is also removed if an offender is:

• sentenced to serve 2 years or more, or
• deceased

Privacy laws

All offender information is released under Alberta’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

Before a notice is released, the offender is advised that their information will be made public. If they want to challenge the accuracy or nature of the information, they can appeal to a chief of police or RCMP “K” Division commanding officer.

Misusing information

If you use the information on this page in any way to injure, harass or commit a criminal act against someone listed, you may be subject to criminal prosecution.
