Introduction
International students from more than 75 countries annually enter Canada through the International Student Program to access Kindergarten to Grade 12 education programming provided by Alberta school authorities.
Attracting international students adds diversity in schools, contributes to the local and provincial economies, supports Alberta’s long-term immigration goals and helps position the province within a global environment of increasing mobility and competition for students in an international knowledge economy.
Local school authorities have discretion over accepting international students and are responsible for the development and administration of local international student programs. The information provided outlines considerations for school authorities in operating international student programs under their authority.
