Grande Prairie Forest Area - September 11, 2025

Very High wildfire danger

The wildfire danger remains very high in the Grande Prairie Forest Area due to continued hot and dry conditions. Use caution when working or spending time outdoors as a wildfire can ignite easily and spread quickly.

Wildfire GWF111

Wildfire GWF111 is classified as out of control at 45 hectares (ha). It is located 12 km northwest of Nose Creek Settlement near Lingrell Creek. Firefighters supported by helicopters and heavy equipment continue working to contain this wildfire by extinguishing hot spots. Lighter winds will limit growth of the fire today.

Evacuation alert: Nose Creek Subdivision

An evacuation alert is now in place for Nose Creek Subdivision. If you are in the affected area, prepare to evacuate if the situation worsens. There is no evacuation required at this time. For more information, visit the Municipal District of Greenview's website.

Smoky conditions

Wildfire GWF111 is causing smoky conditions throughout some parts of the Grande Prairie Forest Area. Call Health Link at 811 if you’re having respiratory problems due to smoke. Visit FireSmoke Canada to see where wildfire smoke is coming from.

Wildfire GBZ001 - Kiskatinaw River wildfire

The Kiskatinaw River wildfire, which started in British Columbia on May 28, is being held. It is estimated at 26,195 hectares (ha) in size and is located along the Alberta–British Columbia border, approximately 68 km west of Grande Prairie. This wildfire was caused by lightning. The BC Wildfire Service is leading the response to this wildfire with Alberta Wildfire providing support as needed. An area restriction limits access to some areas on the B.C. side of the border.

Fire advisory

A fire advisory is in effect for the Grande Prairie Forest Area.

Under this advisory:

  • Existing fire permits are valid. Remember fire permits are not valid in winds over 12 km/h
  • New fire permits will be issued on a case-by-case basis, for essential burning only.
  • Any burning without a valid fire permit, other than a campfire, is prohibited.
  • Fireworks and exploding targets are prohibited.
