High wildfire danger
The wildfire danger in the Grande Prairie Forest Area remains high. Strong winds are anticipated today which, combined with continued dry conditions, increase the chance of a wildfire catching easily and spreading quickly. Use extreme caution when spending time outdoors and avoid any activities that could spark a wildfire.
Wildfire situation
There are currently no active wildfires in the Grande Prairie Forest Area.
Since January 1, 2026, there have been 26 wildfires in the Grande Prairie Forest Area.

Wind conditions
In the Forest Protection Area, all burning, with the exception of campfires, requires a fire permit. Approved fire permits outline specific conditions for your burning project and wind is an important consideration. When winds exceed 15 km/h, all burn piles must be extinguished. High winds can cause fires to spread quickly and become difficult to control. Please pause all open burning projects until conditions improve and ensure all burning remains within permit requirements.
Fire advisory
A fire advisory is in effect in the Grande Prairie Forest Area due to continued dry conditions.
Under this advisory
- Existing fire permits remain valid
- New fire permits will be issued on a case-by-case basis
- Campfires are allowed
Prohibited
- Any burning without a valid fire permit is prohibited, except for campfires
