Very High wildfire danger
The fire danger remains very high. Dry grass and vegetation will catch very easily and, if windy, could burn quickly with an increased risk of high intensity fire behaviour. It is common to see an increase in wildfires at this time of year, please do your part to reduce the number of human-caused wildfires.
Wildfire situation
Since January 1, there have been 21 wildfires in the Edson Forest Area burning a total of 17.19 hectares (ha).
Alberta Wildfire firefighters alongside municipal firefighters responded to multiple wildfires over the weekend. We urge everyone to use extreme caution when working and recreating in the outdoors. If you are using an OHV, ensure you check your vehicle at regular intervals. Knock grass or other combustible material off any hotspots to prevent wildfires.
Keep watch of your surroundings and ensure you have sufficient firefighting equipment and water if carrying out activities that could cause a wildfire. Any spark, friction or hot exhaust could start a wildfire.

Fire advisory
A fire advisory is in effect for the Edson Forest Area.
Under this advisory:
- Existing fire permits are valid. Permit holders must follow all safe burning conditions outlined on the permit.
- New fire permits will be issued on a case-by-case basis for essential burning only.
- Safe campfires are allowed.

Additional helicopter activity near Hinton
The Hinton Training Centre is currently conducting their yearly seasonal firefighter training until the end of May. Residents will notice an increase in helicopter activity travelling between Entrance Fire Base and Tie Camp (RC Flyers) northwest and northeast of town. This training is for firefighters who will be supporting wildfire operations with Alberta Forestry.

Fire permits are required for all burning in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta, with the exception of campfires. To request your free fire permit, contact the local forest area at (780) 723-8527 or you can request your permit online.
