Very High wildfire danger
The fire danger remains very high. Dry grass and vegetation will catch very easily and, if windy, could burn quickly with an increased risk of high intensity fire behaviour. It is common to see an increase in wildfires at this time of year, please do your part to reduce the number of human-caused wildfires.
Wildfire situation
Since January 1, there have been 21 wildfires in the Edson Forest Area burning a total of 17.19 hectares (ha).
Alberta Wildfire firefighters alongside municipal firefighters responded to multiple wildfires today. We urge everyone to use extreme caution when working and recreating in the outdoors. If you are using an OHV, ensure you check your vehicle at regular intervals. Knock grass or other combustible material off any hotspots to prevent wildfires.
Keep watch of your surroundings and ensure you have sufficient firefighting equipment and water if carrying out activities that could cause a wildfire. Any spark, friction or hot exhaust could start a wildfire.

Prevent spring wildfires
To prevent spring wildfires, we urge residents and industry to return to their burn piles and ensure they are fully extinguished. Spread out the remaining material, scan the ashes by looking, smelling and carefully feeling with a bare hand for any signs of smoke or heat from the pile. Soak hot spots and stir until they're completely extinguished. You can also watch our video on how to prevent spring wildfires.
Additional helicopter activity near Hinton
The Hinton Training Centre is currently conducting their yearly seasonal firefighter training until the end of May. Residents will notice an increase in helicopter activity travelling between Entrance Fire Base and Tie Camp (RC Flyers) northwest and northeast of town. This training is for firefighters who will be supporting wildfire operations with Alberta Forestry.

Fire permits are now required for all burning in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta, with the exception of campfires. To request your free fire permit, contact the local forest area at (780) 723-8527 or you can request your permit online.
