The fire danger in the Edson Forest Area remains low due to recent rain. Wildfires can start in wet conditions but are less likely to grow quickly. Keep watch of your surroundings when working and recreating outdoors.
Wildfire situation
Since January 1, there have been 70 wildfires in the Edson Forest Area burning a total of 1,090 hectares (ha).
Wildfires EWF030, EWF036 and EWF038 are currently classified as under control. A wildfire is classified as under control once it has been successfully managed and there is no risk that the fire will spread. These wildfires may emit smoke. Firefighters are monitoring these wildfires for activity and will respond accordingly.
View active wildfires, their locations and statistics on the wildfire status dashboard. Wildfires are regularly assessed by experts and assigned a status to describe the behaviour of the wildfire, and how it is responding to suppression efforts under current and expected conditions.

FireSmart
Your actions today can minimize wildfire damage to your home and property tomorrow. Flames aren’t the only threat. An estimated 90% of homes damaged or destroyed by wildfire are ignited by embers. By taking proactive FireSmart measures around your house and yard, you can increase your properties’ resistance to wildfire.
- Roofs are the most vulnerable part of your home. Sparks and embers from distant wildfires can ignite flammable roofing materials or any debris that may have accumulated there.
- Siding materials like vinyl melt under high temperatures allowing fire to spread into and throughout homes and other buildings.
- Attached decks can spread fire directly to your home. What your deck is made of and what surrounds it are all factors to consider when evaluating your property’s wildfire resilience.
- What you store and plant in your yard impacts the likelihood of fire spreading to your home. Firewood piles, patio furniture, and even long grass can expose your property to increased risk.
