The wildfire danger for the Edson Forest Area is now low due to the ongoing precipitation. However, please remain cautious when spending time outdoors as vegetation can dry out quickly, and a spark, friction, or hot exhaust can all ignite a fire.
Wildfire situation
There are currently no active wildfires in the Edson Forest Area. Since January 1, there have been 53 wildfires in the Edson Forest Area burning a total of 23 hectares (ha). For up-to-date information on wildfire locations, status, size and statistics, visit the Alberta Wildfire Status Dashboard.
Due to ongoing wildfire activity across Canada and the United States, smoky conditions may be present in the area. FireSmoke Canada provides hourly forecasts of smoke concentrations and identifies the source wildfires.

Choose a safe campfire site
In campgrounds or recreational areas, use the designated stoves, fire rings or fire pits. These are designed to keep fires from spreading and are the best choice for a safe campfire. When outside of a campground, choose a site that is clear of dry grass and vegetation and away from low hanging branches. Clear the site down to bare mineral soil, keep it sheltered from the wind, and always have water nearby in case your campfire escapes.
When you're done, always soak it, stir it and soak it again until the ashes are cool to the touch. Never leave your campfire unattended.
If you’re going to burn it, get a permit
Fire permits are required for all burning in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta, with the exception of campfires. To request your free fire permit, contact the local forest area at 780-723-8527 or you can request your permit online.
