Correction of personal information

The Protection of Privacy Act (POPA) allows individuals to request the correction of their personal information.

Overview

An individual who believes their personal information held by a public body contains an error or omission has a right to request the public body correct the information it has in its custody or under its control. Opinions, including professional and expert opinions, cannot be corrected only information.

Request a correction

Should you require a correction to your personal information, submit your request in writing to the public body who has custody or control of the records in question.

Upon receiving your request, the public body must provide you with written notification that the correction has been made, or if no correction has been made, a note of the requested change has been added to the original record. 

You are not required to first submit an access to information request for your personal information.
