Application section C - Program focus area

For example, a program aligned with providing comprehensive continuum of care and timely access to services may also align with standards of care and/or partnership/collaboration.

Program focus areas

Improving access to timely, appropriate services for victims and survivors of human trafficking across the continuum of care – from crisis response and safety, to stability, healing, and long term well being. These programs are often direct support programs for at-risk individuals, victims, or survivors of human trafficking.

Example - crisis response programs; case management; transitional or long-term stabilization supports that may focus on housing, employment, or life skills; navigation supports; survivor-integrated or survivor-informed supports for healing, well-being, and independence; outreach services; wrap-around services

Enhancing organizational capacity to deliver services and sustaining effective services and supports for victims and survivors of human trafficking, including access to organizational resources and training. These programs are often indirect support programs by building an organization’s or agency’s capacity to respond to human trafficking.

Example - training and professional development for frontline staff; development or enhancement of internal policies, procedures, or service models; investments in staff; improvements in data collection, evaluation, monitoring, and reporting systems

Building community awareness and education through campaigns, and educational opportunities. These programs are often broad awareness building campaigns, aiming to increase knowledge within a public or community setting. Note that staff training and development fits under “Building Organizational Capacity” while public or community training or awareness belongs here.

Example - public awareness campaigns; public educational workshops; targeting audience of youth, families, or community members; development of public-facing education materials or resources

Collaborating to deliver a coordinated community response to human trafficking, including data sharing, creation of pathways or shared protocols. This priority area describes funded initiatives that have intentionally and meaningfully sought to partner or collaborate in design and/or delivery.

Example - referral pathways; multi-sector coordinated responses; development of shared protocols, tools, or frameworks to support a consistent response across organizations; service planning models; jurisdictional collaborations

Delivering anti-human trafficking services that are responsive, trauma-informed, data-driven, culturally, and geographically informed, where local needs are known and addressed. This priority area describes funded initiatives that have intentionally included principles around standards of care in the design and/or development of the initiative.

Example - trauma-informed services, survivor-centred, -integrated, or -informed services; culturally responsive services; use of evidence or data in program design; quality improvement projects; alignment with local needs and gaps

A community response model is a coordinated range of services provided by multiple organizations that support survivors from crisis through recovery to long-term stability.

Does your organization, including the program for which you are seeking funding, align with a community response model?

When a program is survivor-informed it means that survivors of human trafficking have been given the opportunity to provide meaningful input into the design or execution of the program. A survivor-integrated program means that the voices, lived experiences, and agency of individuals with lived experience of human trafficking are meaningfully embedded in the design, delivery, and evaluation of the services meant to help them.

A culturally responsive approach to human trafficking occurs when prevention, intervention, and recovery services are tailored to respect the distinct cultural backgrounds, beliefs, and identities of survivors. It ensures that support is holistic, trauma-informed, and avoids "one-size-fits-all" solutions.
