Land Use Forest Officer (Natural Resources 5/6)

Duties and Responsibilities

As a Land Use Forest Officer, you will

  • Encourage government and industry to use adaptive land use planning
  • Be directly involved in reviewing applications for land use operations
  • Recommend the implementation of operational plans for an assigned portfolio of timber companies within your Area
  • Conduct field inspections and audit processes to make sure land is being properly used and land management activities are consistent with legislation, policy and planning approvals
  • Be involved in recreation management, and when necessary, you will help out with fire suppression and forest management.

Minimum Recruitment Standards

Entry Level (Natural Resources 5)

  • Diploma or degree in Natural Sciences or related field.

Your salary range will be $42,924.06 - $53,340.05 per annum.

During this period you will be provided with the training and experience needed to develop the competencies required to perform the duties at the full working level.

Full Working Level (Natural Resources 6)

  • Diploma in Natural Sciences or related field plus considerable years of related experience OR
  • Degree in Natural Science or related field plus several years of related experience.

Your salary range will be $50,484.19 - $64,188.25 per annum.

Additional Requirements

  • You must hold a valid Alberta Scaler's permit.
  • Ability to operate specialized equipment is required such as Data-recorders for scaling, ATVs', snowmobiles, 4X4 trucks in off-highway conditions and GPS units.
  • You must be eligible for registration with the College of Alberta Professional Forest Technologists or the College of Alberta Professional Foresters.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License is required.

Operations Unit Head (Natural Resources 7)

Duties and Responsibilities

As an Operations Unit Head, you will take an active role in implementing Provincial and Area directives and/or guidelines and maintaining standards.

Supervision of forest officers will be a key responsibility and you will work together with other supervisors in the Area to ensure that performance targets and quality standards are being met for land management operations approvals and inspections.

A large part of the job responsibilities will include the mentoring and training of the staff that you directly supervise.

Minimum Recruitment Standards

  • Diploma in Natural Sciences or related field plus extensive years of related experience OR
  • Degree in Natural Sciences plus considerable years of related experience

Your salary range will be $58,968.25 - $75,864.09 per annum.

Duties and Responsibilities

As a Land Management Specialist, you will be responsible for managing industrial, commercial, riparian and recreational activities on public land within an assigned area.

You will make integrated decisions on the use and allocation of public land in consultation with other land and resource management specialists, stakeholders and other departments and agencies to ensure sustainable use of resources.

Reclamation Specialist (Natural Resources 8)

Duties and Responsibilities

As the Reclamation Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring that reclamation programs, policies, standards, and guidelines are developed and implemented to support the sustainability of Public Land in the province.

You will develop protocols for reclamation audit inspections, support reclamation related research and provide support to policy creation. You will also work with departmental staff and clients in the development of provincial reclamation criteria and coordinate training for field staff.

  • Degree in Natural Sciences or a related field plus extensive years of related experience.

Your salary range will be $65,520.14 - $84,624.03 per annum.

Additional Requirements

  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License is required as there may be some field work involved.

Unit Leader, Riparian Land Management and Water Boundaries (Natural Resources 9)

Duties and Responsibilities

As the Unit Leader, Riparian Land Management and Water Boundaries, you will provide leadership and strategic direction for provincial programs related to ownership and management of provincial shorelands and associated riparian lands.

You will work extensively with a variety of stakeholders regarding the conservation of riparian and shoreland areas and the regulatory aspects of their use.

Your salary range will be $69,852.21 - $90,396.05 per annum.

Head, Petroleum Use and Reclamation (Senior Manager)

Duties and Responsibilities

As the Head, Petroleum Land Use and Reclamation, you will provide provincial leadership, expertise, management and guidance for petroleum land use in the province.

You will ensure policies and procedures are efficient and effective for petroleum users as well as other land users who interface and use the same public land. You will also coordinate input on sensitive issues and undertake issue management through collaboration and consultation with department staff, other departments, agencies and stakeholders.

Minimum Recruitment Standards

  • University graduation in natural science, resource management or related field, supplemented by extensive years of progressively responsible experience.

Your salary range will be $80,676.14 - $110,076.23 (pay zone 1) per annum.
