Agrology Career Path Profiles

Rangeland Agrologist (Agrologist 1)

As an entry level Rangeland Agrologist, you will assist with managing the agricultural public land base, primarily within an assigned district, to ensure and improve the long term sustainability of the resources. This will benefit Albertans, rangeland users and the agricultural industry by maintaining a balance of development, use and conservation.

You will conduct field evaluations to monitor range health and grazing management and assess grazing dispositions to ensure compliance with disposition conditions and legislation. You may also be required to conduct soil profile evaluations and work with other professionals involved in natural resource management to integrate sustainable uses on rangelands.

• University graduation in Agriculture or a related degree

During this period you will be provided with the training and experience needed to develop the competencies required to perform the duties at the full working level.

Your salary range will be $52,008.17 - $78,000.11 per annum.

• This position requires extensive fieldwork, using an ATV, sometimes in remote areas.
• Ability to interpret aerial photography, maps, Soil and Vegetation Inventory Databases.
• Eligible for membership with the Alberta Institute of Agrologists.
• A valid Class 5 driver's license is required.

Rangeland Agrologist (Agrologist 2)

As a Rangeland Agrologist, you will oversee the agricultural public land base, primarily within an assigned district, to ensure and improve the long term sustainability of the resources. You will make decisions on the allocation of public land for agricultural uses through consultation with stakeholders and other agencies and facilitate the integration of other uses on rangeland.

You will conduct field evaluations to monitor range health and grazing management and assess grazing dispositions to ensure compliance with disposition conditions and legislation. You may also be required to conduct soil profile evaluations and work with other professionals involved in natural resource management to integrate sustainable uses on rangelands.

• University graduation in Agriculture or a related degree plus considerable years of related experience, OR
• Related Masters degree considered in lieu of part of the considerable years of related experience on a one-for-one basis.

Your salary range will be $60,756.10 - $83,316.16 per annum.

• This position requires extensive fieldwork, using an ATV, sometimes in remote areas.

Public Land Management Specialist (Agrologist 2)

As the Public Land Management Specialist, you will be responsible for assisting the Rangeland Management Branch with agricultural program and policy development. You will develop policies in consultation with field staff, other departmental staff and stakeholders that will address evolving needs within an integrated land management strategy.

You will review potential agricultural use of public land, coordinate emergency grazing and support recreational access to agricultural public land. You will provide professional scientific expertise to clients, agricultural producers and other professionals in government on natural resources and land use to achieve rangeland stewardship and sustainability, to resolve issues and to make land use decisions.

• University graduation in Agriculture or a related degree, plus considerable years of related experience, OR
• Related Masters degree considered in lieu of part of the considerable years of related experience on a one-for-one basis

Your salary range will be $60,756.10 - $83,316.16 per annum.

Unit Leader, Integrated Operations (Agrologist 3)

As the Unit Leader, Integrated Operations, you will provide leadership and professional expertise in the development and delivery of provincial range and related programs to ensure the environmental integrity of public rangeland in Alberta.

You will represent the Department as a specialist and provide technical expertise to groups and agencies with regards to integration of other uses on rangeland.

• Masters degree in Agriculture, or a related field, plus considerable years of related experience, OR
• Bachelors degree in Agriculture, or a related field, plus extensive years of directly related, senior level experience in the specialty area.

Your salary range will be $69,576.08 - $91,668.16 per annum.

• Eligible for membership with the Alberta Institute of Agrologists.
