Wildfire update

Calgary Forest Area - September 02, 2025

High wildfire danger

High wildfire danger continues in the Calgary Forest Area. Although temperatures are expected to be more seasonal over the coming week, there is no substantial rain in the forecast. Recent lightning in the area may have ignited new wildfires. These fires can smoulder for several days before becoming more active and growing quickly.

Conditions are dry and wildfires can ignite easily and spread quickly. Please do your part to prevent new wildfires.

Wildfire situation

There is currently one active wildfire in the Calgary Forest Area.

Fire advisory

A fire advisory remains in effect for the Calgary Forest Area. Under this advisory:

  • Existing fire permits are valid, but extension requests may not be granted.
  • New fire permits will be issued on a case-by-case basis, for essential burning only.
  • Fireworks and exploding targets are prohibited.

Safe campfires are allowed under the current fire advisory. As fire danger levels rise, these restrictions can be adjusted to reduce the likelihood of human-caused wildfires. Visit Alberta Fire Bans for more information and to see the advisory area on a map.

Smoke conditions

Smoke is drifting into the area from wildfires in other parts of Canada; it is not being produced from any wildfires in the Calgary Forest Area. These smoky conditions are expected to continue in the area due to ongoing wildfire activity. FireSmoke Canada provides hourly forecasts of smoke concentrations and identifies the source wildfires. If you have smoke related health concerns, call Health Link 24/7 by dialing 811 or visit Alberta Health Services.

Report wildfires

If you see smoke or flames in a forested area, call 310-FIRE (3473) to report it.

Your call could be the reason firefighters get there faster and keep a small fire from becoming a large one. The public plays a key role in wildfire detection—early reports make a big difference.
