The wildfire danger in the Calgary Forest Area remains moderate. Although cooler temperatures are now common, there is substantial fuel, such as leaf litter and dead grass, available to support fast moving wildfires. Most wildfires at this time of year are caused by people, please use extra caution with any type of activity that could cause a wildfire.
Wildfire situation
There is currently one active wildfire in the Calgary Forest Area. CWF060 is under control at 0.02 hectares.

Pile burning project at Canmore Nordic Centre resumes
After successful burning over the weekend, operations will resume today on pile burning at the Canmore Nordic Centre. The piles remain from important FireSmart work undertaken at the site over the past year. Smoke may be visible in areas near the Canmore Nordic Centre, as there are several projects underway in the vicinity. No additional site closures are anticipated and operations on this project are expected to continue for the week.

Fire permits required
Fire permits are required for any burning, except campfires, in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. This includes small brush piles and burn barrels. Fire permits are free and can be requested from the Calgary Forest Area main office by calling 403-297-8800 or requested from our fire permit site.
