Pile burning project at Canmore Nordic Centre

Starting tomorrow, firefighters will be taking advantage of ideal conditions to conduct pile burning at the Canmore Nordic Centre. The piles remain from important FireSmart work undertaken at the site over the past year. Smoke may be visible in areas near the Canmore Nordic Centre, but burning will be completed and all piles extinguished before Monday. No additional site closures are anticipated.

Fire permits required

Fire permits are required for any burning, except campfires, in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. This includes small brush piles and burn barrels.  Fire permits are free and can be requested from the Calgary Forest Area main office by calling 403-297-8800 or requested from our fire permit site.
