The wildfire danger in the Calgary Forest Area remains moderate. Cooler night time temperatures and some much needed moisture have helped to decrease the wildfire danger in the short term. However a lack of substantial snowfall means that very dry vegetation is still exposed and can support fast moving wildfires. Please do your part to prevent late season wildfires.
Put out your campfires
The Calgary Forest Area is still experiencing new wildfires. Although the causes of some remain under investigation, several abandoned or improperly extinguished campfires have been located over the past week. Never leave your campfire to burn itself out. It must be properly extinguished by soaking it, stirring it, and soaking it again. There is very little snow on the landscape and substantial dry vegetation which is leading to increased risk. Firefighters from the Calgary Forest Area have been locating and extinguishing several campfires that have been left smouldering and become active in dry and windy conditions.
The fine for an unattended or abandoned campfire is $600 and you could also be held liable for the costs of extinguishing the wildfire.
Wildfire situation
There are currently four active wildfires in the CFA; they are all classified as under control. Firefighters will work towards extinguishing these wildfires.
Since January 1, 2025, there have been 71 wildfires in the Calgary Forest Area which have burned almost 67 hectares. View wildfire locations, statistics and more on the Alberta Wildfire Status Dashboard.
