The overall wildfire danger in the Calgary Forest Area is now moderate. Cooler temperatures combined with scattered rain and snow across the region have helped reduce wildfire risk. Southern portions of the forest area may be at slightly higher fire danger as those areas received less precipitation. Continue to use caution with any outdoor activity that could start a wildfire.
Soak it, stir it, and soak it again
Even in cool and wet conditions, abandoned campfires can cause wildfires. Over the long weekend 7 abandoned campfires were detected and extinguished in the Calgary Forest Area.
Please be diligent in properly extinguishing your campfires when you are done. Remember to always soak it, stir it, and soak it again until the coals are cool to the touch. Thank you to everyone who practiced safe and responsible outdoor recreation over the long weekend!
