Check Alberta Fire Bans to see if you are allowed to have a campfire in your area. Be sure to keep it small and fully extinguish it by stirring, soaking and stirring again.

A variety of conditions across the area
The wildfire danger across the Calgary Forest area is highly variable. Some areas in higher elevations or heavily forested areas, snow remains on the ground. Open and exposed areas are at high risk to due to dead and dry vegetation. It is important to be aware that a variety of conditions can exist across a small area.
Both snow and hazardous fuels can exist side-by-side at this time of year. Until green-up occurs, there is ample fuel to feed fast moving wildfires.
Wildfire prevention
A fire ban is currently in effect across many areas of Alberta due to hot, dry weather and extremely dry vegetation. These conditions mean that even a small spark can quickly lead to a dangerous wildfire.
Although the majority of the CFA is not under a fire ban, we are urging extra caution with any heat source, including allowed devices like propane stoves. Never leave any flame unattended.
