Wildfire update

Calgary Forest Area - June 26, 2026

Moderate wildfire danger

The wildfire danger level in the Calgary Forest Area is currently moderate, with drier northern portions of the forest area at high fire danger.

Thundershowers and periods of rain are in the forecast over the next several days, which may help reduce wildfire risk. However, potential lightning associated with these storms can start wildfires, and it takes time for rainfall to lower wildfire danger. Please use caution when spending time outdoors.

Celebrate responsibly with fireworks

As Canada day approaches, residents and visitors are reminded to celebrate responsibly, especially when using fireworks.

The use of fireworks within the Forest Protection Area (FPA) is prohibited year-round without written permission from a forest officer. Anyone planning to use fireworks within the FPA must obtain a permit by requesting online or calling the Calgary Forest Area main office at (403) 297-8800.

Safe campfires

Abandoned campfires cause many wildfires every year in Alberta. To help prevent your campfire from becoming a wildfire, keep it small, safe, and always attended. When you're finished, ensure it is completely extinguished before leaving the site or going to bed. Do not assume rain will put your campfire out. Instead, always soak it, stir it, and soak it again, until the coals are cool to the touch.
