Wildfire update

Calgary Forest Area - June 18, 2025

Moderate wildfire danger

The wildfire danger in the Calgary Forest Area remains moderate, due to recent rainfall across the region. Additional rain is expected in the coming days, which may help further reduce wildfire risk.

Wildfires can still ignite even in cool, damp conditions. Vegetation can dry quickly between rain events, especially on warm and windy days. We urge everyone to continue using caution when spending time outdoors.

Fire ban and advisory lifted

Recent rainfall has provided moisture to vegetation across the Calgary Forest Area, reducing wildfire risk. As a result, all fire bans and advisories have been lifted. While conditions have improved, we ask everyone to continue practicing fire safety. Learn more about wildfire prevention and mitigation

Campfires and permitted burning are now allowed, but it’s important to follow safe burning practices.

If you're camping, be sure to check and follow local fire regulations by visiting Alberta Fire Bans. These rules are in place to protect you, other visitors, and the forest.

Fire permits required

A fire permit is required for any burning other than campfires within the Forest Protection Area during wildfire season. Fire permits help wildfire officials monitor burning activity and ensure it’s done safely. You can request your free fire permit online.

A wildfire danger sign in a forested area reads: 'Wildfire Danger: MODERATE. Before you burn it, get a permit. March 1 – October 31.' The sign includes an illustration of a document with a checkmark and the word 'Alberta' appearing twice. Wildfire danger is currently at moderate in the Calgary Forest Area. Stay alert and follow all fire safety guidelines, including obtaining a fire permit for any burning other than campfires.

Report wildfires

With potential thunderstorms in the forecast, there is a risk of lightning-caused wildfires. Fire lookout observers are actively monitoring for smoke, and firefighters are ready to respond to any new wildfires.

If you see smoke or flames in a forested area, call 310-FIRE (3473) to report it immediately.
