Wildfire update

Calgary Forest Area - June 06, 2025

High wildfire danger

The wildfire danger in the Calgary Forest Area has risen to high. Although southern portions of the forest area received some rainfall, the coverage in northern areas was more spotty allowing the fire danger to continue to climb. The forecast is calling for warm conditions through the weekend.

Please be extremely cautious when spending time outdoors. Avoid activities that could spark a fire and report any signs of a wildfire immediately.

Fire ban

The fire ban that had been in effect for central and northern areas of the province has been expanded to include the Calgary Forest Area.  Under this fire ban all outdoor wood fires are prohibited and exiting fire permits are suspended.

Prohibited:

  • All outdoor wood fires on public and private land. This includes campfires in:
    • backcountry and random camping areas
    • designated campgrounds
    • day use areas
    • private land
  • Barbecue charcoal briquettes
  • Fireworks and exploding targets

Allowed:

  • Propane fire pits and natural gas-powered appliances
  • Indoor wood fires
  • Open flame oil devices
