Consistent rainfall throughout the region has added significant moisture to ground vegetation, effectively reducing the risk of wildfire.
Wildfire situation
There are currently no active wildfires in the Calgary Forest Area.
Even during periods of low wildfire danger, lookout observers remain busy by reporting weather measurements, performing on-site facility maintenance and monitoring the landscape for smoke or flames. These trained professionals play a vital role in early wildfire detection, providing an essential early warning system that allows firefighting resources to be deployed quickly and effectively. Human observers, along with public reports, remain among the most effective tools for wildfire detection.
From the lookout
While keeping watch over the landscape, one of our lookout observers recently captured a striking photo of a cougar passing through the area. It’s a reminder of the incredible wildlife that shares these forests.
