Alberta continues to host major national sport events as Calgary prepares to welcome the country's top softball athletes. From July 29 to Aug. 2, Calgary and area is set to welcome more than 2,000 participants, including, athletes, coaches, technical officials and spectators. The event is projected to generate more than $2.3 million in local economic activity.
To support the championship, Alberta's government is providing more than $34,000 to All-Star Girls Fastpitch Association through the Major Sport Events (MSE) grant program. This grant program provides financial assistance to support organizations in planning and hosting national and international sporting events in Alberta. Hosting major sporting events like these helps highlight Alberta’s reputation as a premier destination for major sport events.
“Alberta is proud to support events that give young athletes the opportunity to develop their skills, compete at a high level and pursue their goals in sport. Hosting national championships like this strengthens our communities, supports local businesses and reinforces Alberta's reputation as a premier destination for major sporting events.”
Alberta has proudly hosted the U17 Women's Canadian Fastpitch Championship four times over the past 25 years. This year, the province will showcase its exceptional talent with four teams competing on home soil; host team Calgary Kaizen, reigning national champions Calgary Adrenaline, the Lloydminster Liners and the Camrose Crossfire, featuring about 60 Alberta athletes.
“The MSE grant has been instrumental to the success of our tournament, providing critical support that helped us deliver a first-class Canadian championship experience for athletes, coaches and fans. Hosting the event right here at home and bringing teams together from across Canada will create a lasting impact for the softball community.”
