The wildfire danger in the Calgary Forest Area remains very high. Ongoing warm temperatures and windy conditions have continued to dry out vegetation, increasing the potential for wildfires to start and spread quickly. Thunderstorms in the forecast may bring scattered precipitation and temporary relief, however it takes time for rainfall to lower wildfire danger and lightning associated with storms can spark wildfires. Please use caution with any outdoor activity.
Fire advisory
A fire advisory is in effect in the Calgary Forest Area due to hot and dry conditions, strong winds, and increased fire danger.
Under this advisory new fire permits will be issued on a case-by-case basis and existing fire permits remain valid.

The fire advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve.
Smoke conditions
Due to ongoing wildfire activity across Canada, smoky conditions may be present in the area. There are currently no active wildfires in the Calgary Forest Area contributing to smoke condition.
FireSmoke Canada provides hourly forecasts of smoke concentrations and identifies the source wildfires. If you have smoke related health concerns, call Health Link by dialing 811 or visit Alberta Health Services.
Responsible recreation
If you are heading outdoors, remember to do your part to prevent wildfires. Recreating responsibly on Alberta's public land helps keep our forests and communities safe. While campfires are still allowed during the current fire advisory, please exercise caution. Campfires should be kept small, so you can control them and extinguish them quickly if needed.
Please remember that campfires must be attended at all times. If we come across an unattended campfire, not only will we extinguish it, but you could face a fine of $600.
Fireworks and exploding targets are prohibited in the Forest Protection Area without written consent from a forest officer.

Wildfire situation
Since January 1, there have been 38 wildfires in the Calgary Forest Area, which have burned over 20 hectares.
