The wildfire danger in the Calgary Forest area is moderate. Recent rainfall has brought welcome moisture to some regions of the forest area, however precipitation has been variable and some regions remain much drier. Warm late summer temperatures are expected to continue, allowing vegetation to dry out. Wildfires can start and spread easily in these conditions. Please be cautious if you're spending time outdoors and do your part to prevent wildfires.
If you're going to burn it, get a permit
Fire permits are required for any type of burning within the Forest Protection Area, with the exception of campfires. You can request your free fire permit online (preferred) or by calling the Calgary Forest Area main office at (403) 297-8800.
Always follow safe burning practices. If the wind is gusting over 15 km/h or increases beyond the limit on your permit, immediately extinguish your fire.
Wildfire situation
There are currently no active wildfires in the Calgary Forest Area.
Since January 1, there have been 92 wildfires in the Calgary Forest Area, which have burned over 20 hectares.
