Wildfire update

Calgary Forest Area - August 12, 2025

Moderate wildfire danger

The average wildfire danger across the Calgary Forest Area has increased to moderate. While scattered rain has continued in northern portions of the forest area, southern areas have begun to dry out. Warmer conditions are in the forecast which will cause the wildfire danger to climb over the coming days. Please use caution when recreating outdoors.

Wildfire situation

There are no active wildfires in the Calgary Forest Area. Sufficient resources and wildland firefighters are always stationed in the forest area to respond to any wildfires that may ignite. Visit our Alberta Wildfire Status Dashboard for up-to date information about the wildfire situation.

During periods of low wildfire activity, firefighters often support public outreach and education programs. One such initiative took place recently, when youth from the Tsuut'ina Nation participated in a hands-on training session to learn more about careers in wildland firefighting.

In an outdoor setting surrounded by tall spruce and pine trees and a partly cloudy sky, a group of wildland firefighters in yellow uniforms are gathered with youth from the Tsuut'ina Nation. They are standing beside a large yellow water tank and a wildland firefighting truck. One firefighter is demonstrating how to refill the fire engine with water, while the youth observe and participate in the training activity. On August 11, 2025, youth from the Tsuut'ina Nation took part in a wildland firefighting training session, learning how to refill a fire engine with water as part of a hands-on educational experience.
