Authority to discipline directive

This directive covers how the authority to discipline employees is delegated in the Alberta Public Service.

Overview

This directive describes how the authority to discipline employees is delegated.

Delegation of authority

The deputy minister has the authority to discipline employees and to delegate that authority to employees (see Sections 25 and 9 of the Public Service Act).

The authority to discipline employees will always be delegated in writing. The document will include a statement delegating authority to a position (not to an individual) and to any individual formally designated to act on behalf of the employee who occupies that position.
