Assessing fish populations

Introduction

Fisheries biologists use a variety of scientific methods to assess fish populations. Consistent methods are used across the province and are described in peer-reviewed literature. These methods provide important data to inform the management of fish and fisheries – from managing angler harvest and use to protecting species at risk. Healthy fish populations mean we can enjoy the benefits of sustainable fisheries and healthy ecosystems.
