Volunteering her talents and time to numerous local efforts, Mary Hegge is a big part of Millet’s future – and its past.
As president of the Millet and District Historical Society (MDHS), Mary helps guide the MDHS Board of Directors in its work to preserve local heritage and share the story of Millet’s past through innovative programming.
As treasurer of the organization, Mary’s generosity of spirit has also benefited the Millet Seniors Club, where she not only diligently manages the club’s accounts but also arranges bus tours to combat isolation and help the area’s elders stay active and engaged. It is perhaps this interest in supporting the mental wellness of local residents that prompted Mary to step up as secretary and treasurer with Support Mental Illness Lives Everyday (SMILES), working with the organization’s board to develop and implement programs to help promote positive mental well-being.
The Millet Lions Club continues to roar with Mary working behind the scenes to keep accounts in order – not only for the club itself, but also for the local Lions Campground. Mary is also among the first to hold up her hand to volunteer for club events and fundraising activities.
With so much on the go, Mary still finds time to check in on neighbours and offer up her assistance when needed. It is for all this and more that Lioness Mary Hegge can take pride in her Northern Lights Volunteer Recognition!
