Through the Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction fund, Alberta’s government is investing more than $15 million in seven new technology projects across the energy, agriculture, manufacturing, critical minerals and waste-management sectors.
This funding will help Calgary-based companies test, scale, and commercialize innovative technologies that strengthen industry competitiveness, support Alberta-made products and reduce emissions.

The projects span a wide range of innovative technologies, from the world’s first large-scale used motor oil recycling project and lower-emission agricultural products to methane detection and reduction technologies and materials for nuclear energy and batteries. They also include drone technology that improves the safety and efficiency of powerline maintenance while reducing emissions, as well as a first-of-its-kind process that uses electricity instead of water or heat to convert bitumen into asphalt, a key material for building and maintaining roads.
