For Alina Moskalenko, the response to the war that has gripped her home nation of Ukraine has been to embrace her new community in Calgary and step up for those who are trying to find their own way in a new land.
In the less than 2 years since her own arrival in Canada, Alina has become a role model within her community, as she demonstrates her passion through action in support of refugees of the Ukraine conflict. Working with a variety of Calgary-based organizations, Alina has been instrumental in organizing and leading efforts within the community to provide support and educational resources to newcomers and others in need of help. Whether it is a government-sponsored or community-based program, Alina works with compassion and determination to match needs with available resources.
With her experience in identifying community supports, Alina’s desire to make a difference has led her to take a more direct approach. Alina recently took the initiative to organize a new non-profit, the Harmony Diversity Association, an organization with a mission to promote and celebrate Alberta’s multiculturalism and rich diversity.
For exhibiting generosity and a dedication to lifting up members of her community, we say “dyakuyu” – thank you to Alina Moskalenko and congratulations on your selection as a Northern Lights Volunteer Recognition recipient.
