Overview
The Alberta Crown Land Vision outlines a modern approach to managing provincial Crown land, balancing community, Indigenous, and economic needs with conservation and recreation. The vision ensures sustainable land use, supports responsible trail and backcountry activities, and establishes a more consistent and integrated approach to Crown Land management.
Crown land covers approximately 60% of the province and sustains Alberta’s abundance of resources and biodiversity. These lands are used for conservation, recreation and economic development and support the continued exercise of Treaty rights.
Outcomes
Albertans shared ideas across a variety of Crown land initiatives to modernize Alberta’s land management system and ensure Crown land management is integrated while respecting conservation, parks, public lands and Indigenous knowledge.

Crown Land Recreation and Conservation Strategy
The Crown Land Recreation and Conservation Strategy co-ordinates efforts to expand outdoor recreation responsibly, while still meeting conservation goals and supporting local communities.
Well-managed Crown lands strengthen Alberta’s economy, protect the environment and support the social and cultural well-being of all Albertans by providing diverse outdoor recreation opportunities throughout the province.
The Crown Land Recreation and Conservation Strategy is focused on public land while also supporting the continued responsible management of wilderness areas, ecological reserves, natural areas and heritage rangelands, along with Willmore Wilderness Park.
